Call for Papers: Intersecting Photographies Photography Network’s 2022 Symposium, October 13-15
The second symposium of the Photography Network will be hosted jointly by Photography Network and Howard University in Washington, DC. Depending on circumstances, the event will either be hybrid (in-person and virtual) or fully virtual. We will update speakers and attendees by August 15.

Recent scholarly discourse on photographies has treated the subject of art and photography as a relic of the past. Has the aesthetic been delegitimized as a vital area of scholarly research? In this presentation Juliet Hacking and Joanne Lukitsh, editors of a recent anthology of essays on art and photography in the 19th century, make the case for revisiting the material and metaphorical interplay between photography and the arts, with “arts” encompassing a range of media from the visual culture of the time.

As a CAA Affiliated Society, Photography Network fosters discussion, research, and new approaches to the study and practice of photography in its relation to art, culture, society, and history, and mounts a yearly session at the conference.
Navigating the Digitization of Photographic Research
Photography Network is excited to host the workshop “Navigating the Digitization of Photographic Research.” This event has been rescheduled to Tuesday, April 19th, 9 AM PDT / 12 noon EDT / 4 PM GMT. Organized by Emily Pugh and Tracy Stuber, both of the Getty Research Institute, the workshop is organized into two sections.
PN Writing Group
Don’t forget, Photography Network Writing Group offers a twice-monthly meeting place for members to gather and focus on scholarly projects. We devote the first 10 minutes of each meeting to socializing, resource sharing, and goal setting. The remainder of the time consists of two 30-minute quiet, independent writing blocks with a 5-minute break in between.
We meet every other Friday at 9 AM PST / 12 pm EST / 5 PM GMT via Zoom.
